The quickest easiest Christmas sewing project ever! Advent Calendar

Has the Christmas spirit begun in your house yet?  Last week we pulled out the decorations, put up the tree, and for the first time bought some lights to put in the front garden.  Our new Elf on the Shelf, Linkle, found his way to our house and has been getting up to some fun.

The other day I showed you the Santa Sacks I made for the boys and today I wanted to share what would have to be the quickest Christmas sewing project I’ve come across.

About three years ago I started planning the most awesome home-sewn advent calendar.  It looks something like this one from Purl Solo.   It was a Christmas tree with individually made decorations which the kids pull out of the pocket each day and put on the tree.

Despite the best of intentions, there is literally no sewing to show for it.  I think this bigger than Ben Hur project got the better of me and ended up being too overwhelming to even get started on.

Last month when I was up at the Sew Creative Supplies open day, I spotted the gorgeous advent calendar panels they had for sale and Alison’s mum had sewn one up for the display.  Alison assured me that it had only taken her 2 hours to make and that included hand sewing the binding on.  Ok, 2 hours…  that’s my kind of advent calendar.

The Sew Creative Supplies ladies generously provided me with the panel to make the calendar and it definitely didn’t disappoint!  It really was super quick… maybe about 3 hours for me but I’m pretty slow and I did hand sew the binding as well.

I’m so happy with how it turned out and it was a much more realistic project than my original idea.

Be sure to pop over and check out all the gorgeous fabrics and supplies Alison & Shelley have in their shop plus this week they have free Australia-wide shipping for orders over $25 – score!

The plans for my summer capsule wardrobe are coming along.  I’ve cleared out my wardrobe and hope to blog about that later this week.  I’ve also managed to FINALLY take photos of my finished Bombshell swimsuit so it WILL be blogged.

No really, this time for sure!

What are you sewing this week?

Nat.
