What better way to start off Kids Clothes Week than to sew up a gorgeous hoodie for my Mr Little?
The Bimaa Sweater pattern was one I picked up in the Sew Fab pattern bundle that came out last year. It was something ridiculous like 24 patterns for about $30 – I LOVE a bargain!! I wasn’t sure how many of them I would actually end up using, however since I had 3 KCW projects planned for my Big Boy I thought I’d better pick something for the little guy as well. And this little gem was my pick of the bunch!
It’s been a hugely popular pattern in the KCW community and now I can understand why – BIG results, minimal effort!
I made the smallest size, 12 months, for Mr Little who is 7 months old. Since the pattern is designed to be tight fitted and also calls for a knit fabric with 4-way stretch this should last him through our up-coming winter.
I sewed it up entirely on my overlocker which meant no finishing seams and no mucking around with different knit-friendly stitches on my machine – hooray! I also LOVE a garment with beautifully finished seams – it just satisfies the perfectionist in me…
I didn’t have the exact overlocker thread colour I needed so I went with grey which was my next best, and then popped a navy thread on the left needle so the seam thread would match the fabric – I love that trick!
Now that I’m fairly confident sewing with knits, this was such a great, quick sew.
Is anyone else sewing for Kids Clothes Week?? I’d love to hear about your projects!
