July sewing plans

I get so much out of writing these monthly sewing lists.  I use it both as a really effective motivator for getting my sewing projects happening and its also a bit of a personal record of my sewing and blogging journey. I’m not sure how interesting you as a reader find it, but I hope you at least get some ideas or motivation for your own projects.  Are you a list writer like me??

july sewing plans

Wow – June was biiiiiiizy!  First up, I participated in a fabulous Kids handmade clothing swap organised by Jenny of Made and Make New.  I sewed up my first little girl’s dress which was so fun AND it was featured as the week’s favourite on the Pie Pie Designs Tuesday Sews Link Up – exciting times!  I sewed my third version of the See Kate Sew Zippy Top for my gorgeous friend, as well as making a Julia Cardigan for myself.  I also sewed a second pair of Small Fry Skinny Jeans for my boy which will be blogged as soon as I can get him to agree to a photo shoot!!  Much like his first pair, they are SUCH a practical but stylish item, are durable and on high rotation in his wardrobe.

After three drafts, I managed to come up with a size 4 boys tee pattern that I was happy with and have made up a few tees in the process (to be blogged soon).  I spent a lot of time in May teaching myself how to use Inkscape to digitise my sewing patterns but after a lot of frustration have put it on the back burner for a while.  If any of you are interested in me putting this size 4 tee pattern up as a freebie, let me know and I’ll get myself motivated to do it!

June also saw me start up my first group Pinterest board “Sewing Down Under”.  The online sewing community is such a fabulous place to draw inspiration and I thought this would be a great opportunity for Aussie and NZ sewists to collaborate and share our projects, tutorials and patterns.  It also means we get to see seasonal projects at the right time of year for us.  I’d love you to check it out and please send me an email if you’re interested in being a contributor – the more the merrier!

I decided to bite the bullet and organise a couple of sew along nights in my local area.  I really love being a part of this online sewing community but it’s still not quite the same as a real life opportunity to catch up with others, see their projects and ideas and learn a few things from each other  Fingers crossed there’s enough interest for me to keep them going on a regular basis!

FINALLY, I’ve landed myself a guest blogging spot with Deanna from Sew McCool which is coming up in a couple of weeks.  I’m SOOOOOO excited about the project and free tutorial I’ve come up with.  I haven’t seen anything like it around the online sewing circles before so stay tuned!!

Ok, ok, enough about last month.  With so much else going on, a busy family life, the Big Boy’s birthday party and an overseas holiday (WOO!) coming up in July I decided to keep this month’s list short.

1)      Captain Barnacles costume – yes, this was on last month’s list but I’ve now decided how I’m going to make it, plus have all the fabric ready to go so I’m halfway there (right?!)

2)      Bombshell swimsuit – I bought this pattern recently in the latest Pattern Parcel bundle and am excited but terrified to make it – haha!!  Sophie from Ada Spragg (formerly Cirque du bebe) made this STUNNING version last year so with a tropical holiday looming in a month’s time it’s the perfect motivator for me to get it finished.

And – that’s it!  I know, not much on there but there are a couple of other things like baby pressies and maybe an art roll for the plane that I might try fit in too, but they’re not high priorities.

What’s everyone else up to this month?

Happy sewing,

Nat x
